The Atlanta Falcons were the laughing stock of the NFL for the entire offseason due to one epic meltdown in the biggest game of the season. All one had to say to an obnoxious Falcons fan was ’28-3’ and they would stew in anger before storming off. However, it may not be wise to keep teasing those same fans because the Atlanta Falcons are a force to be reckoned with.
A lot of fantasy pundits were looking, no expecting, the Falcons to take a step back this season. Without Kyle Shanahan, at least the offense would regress right? Wrong, as they showed Sunday night those dirty birds are still flying high. Matt Ryan is a stud and he has officially become an elite player at the position. Freeman is as good a RB as the league has at the moment and the receivers, led by Julio Jones, are still very good.
I don’t want to brag, but I never understood the shouts of demise for the Falcons from outsiders. I understand Shanahan is a good coordinator, but the talent these Falcons have is undeniable. Not only is the offense stellar, but also their defense is young, fast and VERY LEGIT. Deion Jones is a budding star at linebacker, Vic Beasley led the league in sacks last year (although he’s expected to miss about a month) and the secondary is above average. The Falcons have the right formula under head coach Dan Quinn and they should be contending for yet another Super Bowl appearance this season.
So before you go out and throw another 28-3 reference at a Falcons fan in recovery, keep in mind that this is a new season. Last season is over and, while they would like to forget, that loss is still sitting with the 2017 Atlanta Falcons. After watching what they did to the Green Bay Packers on Sunday night, I would say it’s motivating them as well.
