Week 5 brought another round of disparaging injuries for players throughout the league. As injuries pile up and BYE weeks start to kick in the waiver wire become more important than ever. Whether you’re looking for a weekly stream or you’re desperate for a long-term flex option you need to consider making claims on these players.
Marlon Mack, RB Indianapolis Colts
If you read my “Airing of the Grievances” article you know that as a Frank Gore owner I’m upset with Mack. He proved this week that his early season injuries concerns are over and he looked explosive. He only got the ball 9 times against the 49ers but racked up 91 yards and a TD. Mack also had a touchdown Week 1, and should’ve had two but one was robbed by the refs. The Colts are sure to utilize this viable RB option to give the 34 year old Gore a more manageable workload. The best part? He’s owned is just 3.3% of leagues. He’s worth stashing on your bench and playing in good match-ups.
Devin Funchess, WR Carolina Panthers
The time to shuffle your feet on Funchess is over. He’s legit, and dare I say it his QB might also be legit. In PPR scoring he’s scored 9+ fantasy points 4 out of 5 weeks and has combined for 44 points the last two weeks. Most importantly, he’s brought in 7 receptions each of those weeks. He’s got a high floor and higher ceiling, making him a no brainer weekly start. He’s available in 45% of leagues, if that includes your league put in a claim now because I expect him to be available in 5% of leagues next week.
Wayne Gallman, RB New York Giants
There are few positive things happening in New York. In fact, Gallman is just about the only thing. He’s emerged from the shadows of the worst attempt at a RBBC the NFL has ever seen. He’s gotten 12 carries each of the last two weeks and rushed for a total of 99 yards. He also brought in 7 receptions for 30 yards. As Eli loses more receivers he should turn to Gallman more in the passing game. In PPR leagues I think Gallman is a viable flex option, who will get more work as the season goes on. Gallman is owned in only 26.9% of leagues.
Cameron Brate, TE Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Brate has become a favorite target for Winston. He’s pulled in at least 4 receptions each of the last three weeks, getting 33, 80, and 86 yards respectively. More importantly, he’s scored a TD in each of those weeks. OJ Howard is no threat to Brate and I feel very comfortable starting him weekly as a high upside piece playing in a dynamic Tampa Bay offense. Despite his impressive performance, he’s still available in 49% of leagues.
Andre Ellington, RB Arizona Cardinals
Ellington is a PPR dream; a RB only in title. His rushing numbers are abysmal. His ability to catch the ball, however, makes him a dynamic flex option for fantasy owners. He’s brought in 23 receptions the last 3 weeks for 210 yards; which has led to an average of 15 fantasy points per week. If you’re in a standard league, avoid but he’s worth a claim in PPR leagues. He’s available in 50% of leagues.
