Mock Draft Series 1.0

Matt Hicks, Staff Writer

Welcome to the Mock Draft Series! This is a series of mock drafts that will happen throughout the 2018 NFL off-season. The series will have twelve of the best football minds from around the fantasy football community, all of which are linked to their Twitter handles in the first round. The drafts will have different rules, that are tailored to different league formats. This league is Redraft, PPR, and does not have rookies. This article provides some reaction/feedback to picks but we dig much more into it in our second episode of the Top2Pod, our podcast that you can listen to, or download via Apple Podcast HERE

First Round

  1. Marc Szymanski (Fantasy Football Addicts): Todd Gurley-RB

Gurley vs Bell is sure to dominate the number one overall pick conversation in redraft leagues. It’s real close for me, and it makes me believe that the number 1 overall pick isn’t as valuable as it has been in the past.

  1. Matt Hicks (Top2Sports):                                         Le’Veon Bell-RB
  2. Josh Padgett (DynastyDorks/Top2Sports):         Odell Beckham Jr.-WR
  3. Derek Brown (Fantasy Football 24/7)                   Antonio Brown-WR
  4. The Commish (fntsyfbconnect)                             David Johnson – RB
  5. Dave H (Dynasty Dorks)                                          Ezekiel Elliot – RB
  6. Anthony Zaragoza (Redraft Football Factory) Kareem Hunt – RB
  7. The Checkdown (Rick Rosen)                                Leonard Fournette – RB
  8. PK Ripper (Pyromaniac)                                         Alvin Kamara -RB

Kamara finds himself at the back on the sophomore standouts. I expect this trend to continue, as regression concerns surround Kamara.

  1. Eric Adams (Top2Sports)                                         DeAndre Hopkins – WR

Hopkins is the 2nd WR off the board, at 10th overall. This starts a free fall of WRs.

  1. Wheeler (NFLmock)                                                  Julio Jones-WR
  2. Fantasy Typhoon (FantasyFootball1on1)           A J Green – WR

Second Round

  1. Fantasy Typhoon (FantasyFootball1on1)           Dalvin Cook – RB
  2. Wheeler (NFLmock)                                                 LeSean McCoy-RB
  3. Eric Adams (Top2Sports)                                        Melvin Gordon-RB

Gordon has fallen out of a “first round RB” in a lot of fantasy minds. I think this makes him a great value in the 2nd round.

  1. PK Ripper (Pyromaniac)                                         Devonta Freeman-RB
  2. The Checkdown (Rick Rosen)                                Michael Thomas – WR
  3. Anthony Zaragoza (Redraft Football Factory) Christian McCaffrey – RB
  4. Dave H (Dynasty Dorks)                                          Keenan Allen – WR
  5. The Commish (fntsyfbconnect)                             Mike Evans – WR

Evans plummeted in this draft, compared to his top 10 status last year. I think it’s a justified drop.

  1. Derek Brown (Fantasy Football 24/7)                  Rob Gronkowski-TE

Gronk is the first TE to go off the board, in a similar spot to where we’ve seen him go in past years.

  1. Josh Padgett (DynastyDorks/Top2Sports):         Davante Adams-WR
  2. Matt Hicks (Top2Sports):                                        Tyreek Hill-WR
  3. Marc Szymanski (Fantasy Football Addicts):    Mark Ingram-RB

Third Round

  1. Marc Szymanski (Fantasy Football Addicts):   Jarvis Landry-WR
  2. Matt Hicks (Top2Sports):                                        Jordan Howard-RB

I discuss this more in the podcast, but Howard has huge value here.

  1. Josh Padgett (DynastyDorks/Top2Sports):          Travis Kelce-TE
  2. Derek Brown (Fantasy Football 24/7)                    Kenyan Drake-RB
  3. The Commish (fntsyfbconnect)                               Carlos Hyde – RB
  4. Dave H (Dynasty Dorks)                                            Adam Thielen – WR
  5. Anthony Zaragoza (Redraft Football Factory)   Golden Tate – WR

Although is productive was lower than Marvin Jones Jr., Tate still goes much higher than him.

  1. The Checkdown (Rick Rosen)                                   Doug Baldwin – WR
  2. PK Ripper (Pyromaniac)                                            Brandin Cooks -WR
  3. Eric Adams (Top2Sports)                                          Zach Ertz – TE
  4. Wheeler (NFLmock)                                                   Demaryius Thomas- WR
  5. Fantasy Typhoon (FantasyFootball1on1)            Jay Ajayi – RB

Ajayi free falls from a late first round-mid second round pick in 2017 to a justified late 4th round pick here

Fourth Round

  1. Fantasy Typhoon (FantasyFootball1on1)             TY Hilton – WR

If Luck comes back healthy, Hilton has great value in the 5th

  1. Wheeler (NFLmock)                                                  Aaron Rodgers- QB

Rodgers comes off the board first for QBs, we dig more into how this draft reflects our QB rankings in the podcast episode.

  1. Eric Adams (Top2Sports)                                         Alex Collins – RB
  2. PK Ripper (Pyromaniac)                                          Derrick Henry – RB

Where Henry goes will vary greatly depending on the league, here he goes below Alex Collins, a bold move

  1. The Checkdown (Rick Rosen)                                Amari Cooper – WR

Cooper goes above Crabtree. I’m a Cooper truther so I like this; remember he was a 2nd round pick in 2017

  1. Anthony Zaragoza (Redraft Football Factory)  Alshon Jeffery – WR
  2. Dave H (Dynasty Dorks)                                           Lamar Miller – RB
  3. The Commish (fntsyfbconnect)                             Stephon Diggs- WR
  4. Derek Brown (Fantasy Football 24/7)                   Joe Mixon- RB

I would be remiss if I didn’t point out I don’t like the Mixon pick. Although I think this is spot-on for where he will go in most re-drafts

  1. Josh Padgett (DynastyDorks/Top2Sports):         Tevin Coleman-RB
  2. Matt Hicks (Top2Sports):                                         Larry Fitz-WR
  3. Marc Szymanski (Fantasy Football Addicts):    Jordy Nelson-WR

Fifth Round

  1. Marc Szymanski (Fantasy Football Addicts):      CJ Anderson-RB
  2. Matt Hicks (Top2Sports):                                          Michael Crabtree-WR
  3. Josh Padgett (DynastyDorks/Top2Sports):          Chris Thompson-RB
  4. Derek Brown (Fantasy Football 24/7)                   Sammy Watkins- WR

Watkins goes just before Woods. I expect Woods to go higher in most re-drafts, however, I’d rather have Watkins.

  1. The Commish (fntsyfbconnect)                             Juju Smith-Schuster – WR
  2. Dave H (Dynasty Dorks)                                          Russell Wilson – QB
  3. Anthony Zaragoza (Redraft Football Factory) Devin Funchess – WR
  4. The Checkdown (Rick Rosen)                                Robert Woods – WR
  5. PK Ripper (Pyromaniac)                                         Dez Bryant -WR
  6. Eric Adams (Top2Sports)                                       Nelson Agholor -WR
  7. Wheeler (NFLmock)                                               Duke Johnson- RB
  8. Fantasy Typhoon (FantasyFootball1on1)         Josh Gordon – WR

Good value for Gordon in the 5th, I’d like to see how Gordon goes over the course of the Mock Draft Series; I don’t expect it to be consistent.

Sixth Round

  1. Fantasy Typhoon (FantasyFootball1on1)            Julian Edelman – WR

First Patriot other than the obvious (Gronk and Cooks) to go off the board

  1. Wheeler (NFLmock)                                                  Allen Robinson-WR
  2. Eric Adams (Top2Sports)                                         Dion Lewis – RB
  3. PK Ripper (Pyromaniac)                                          Marvin Jones Jr – WR
  4. The Checkdown (Rick Rosen)                                 Cam Newton – QB
  5. Anthony Zaragoza (Redraft Football Factory)  Marquise Goodwin – WR
  6. Dave H (Dynasty Dorks)                                           Chris Carson – RB
  7. The Commish (fntsyfbconnect)                              Jamal Williams – RB

Williams is the first Green Bay running back to go off the board. Drafting from this backfield is messy to me, so I’m waiting until later rounds.

  1. Derek Brown (Fantasy Football 24/7)                   Corey Davis-WR

Corey Davis in the 6th round brings high upside for a young WR with little competition for volume

  1. Josh Padgett (DynastyDorks/Top2Sports):          DeMarco Murray-RB
  2. Matt Hicks (Top2Sports):                                          Evan Engram-TE

Engram is the first TE to go off the board outside of the “top 3” (Gronk, Kelce, Ertz)

  1. Marc Szymanski (Fantasy Football Addicts):     Greg Olsen-TE

Seventh Round

  1. Marc Szymanski (Fantasy Football Addicts):        Pierre Garcon-WR
  2. Matt Hicks (Top2Sports):                                            Emmanuel Sanders-WR
  3. Josh Padgett (DynastyDorks/Top2Sports):             Isaiah Crowell-RB
  4. Derek Brown (Fantasy Football 24/7)                      Aaron Jones-RB
  5. The Commish (fntsyfbconnect)                                Bilal Powell – RB

Powell is the only Jet running back to go off the board in this draft

  1. Dave H (Dynasty Dorks)                                              Sterling Shepard – WR
  2. Anthony Zaragoza (Redraft Football Factory)     Will Fuller V – WR
  3. The Checkdown (Rick Rosen)                                    Frank Gore – RB
  4. PK Ripper (Pyromaniac)                                             Deshaun Watson-QB
  5. Eric Adams (Top2Sports)                                            Tom Brady – QB
  6. Wheeler (NFLmock)                                                     D’Onta Foreman-RB

Interesting, but great sleeper value with Foreman here; although I think he’d fall further.

  1. Fantasy Typhoon (FantasyFootball1on1)               Carson Wentz – QB

Eight Round

  1. Fantasy Typhoon (FantasyFootball1on1)                Jordan Reed – TE
  2. Wheeler (NFLmock)                                                      Cooper Kupp-WR
  3. Eric Adams (Top2Sports)                                             Jimmy Graham – TE

This round saw a lot of TE value, but Graham is my favorite. He had great end zone production with little volume; as he shifts teams in free agency his potential to score can increase

  1. PK Ripper (Pyromaniac)                                              Jack Doyle -TE
  2. The Checkdown (Rick Rosen)                                    Cameron Meredith – WR
  3. Anthony Zaragoza (Redraft Football Factory)     Marshawn Lynch – RB

Lynch’s draft value will shift greatly this offseason, depending on whether Gruden pursues another back in the draft/free agency

  1. Dave H (Dynasty Dorks)                                              Rex Burkhead – RB
  2. The Commish (fntsyfbconnect)                                Kelvin Benjamin – WR
  3. Derek Brown (Fantasy Football 24/7)                     Tarik Cohen- RB
  4. Josh Padgett (DynastyDorks/Top2Sports):            Andrew Luck-QB
  5. Matt Hicks (Top2Sports):                                           Kirk Cousins-QB
  6. Marc Szymanski (Fantasy Football Addicts):       Theo Riddick-RB

Ninth Round

  1. Marc Szymanski (Fantasy Football Addicts):        Jimmy Garoppolo-QB
  2. Matt Hicks (Top2Sports):                                            Marlon Mack-RB

I dig more into this pick in the podcast as well, but Mack has huge value in the 9th

  1. Josh Padgett (DynastyDorks/Top2Sports):             Kenny Stills-WR
  2. Derek Brown (Fantasy Football 24/7)                      Drew Brees-QB
  3. The Commish (fntsyfbconnect)                                Matt Stafford – QB
  4. Dave H (Dynasty Dorks)                                             Jamison Crowder – WR
  5. Anthony Zaragoza (Redraft Football Factory)    Delanie Walker – TE
  6. The Checkdown (Rick Rosen)                                   Desean Jackson – WR
  7. PK Ripper (Pyromaniac)                                            Wayne Gallman-RB

Ripper drops another bold move in this draft, but Gallman could pay off big if the Giants resist Barkley in the draft and rightly focus on other needs

  1. Eric Adams (Top2Sports)                                           Mohamed Sanu – WR
  2. Wheeler (NFLmock)                                                    Hunter Henry – TE
  3. Fantasy Typhoon (FantasyFootball1on1)              Peyton Barber – RB

Tenth Round

  1. Fantasy Typhoon (FantasyFootball1on1)              Matt Breida – RB
  2. Wheeler (NFLmock)                                                    Samaje Perrine – RB
  3. Eric Adams (Top2Sports)                                           Martavis Bryant – WR
  4. PK Ripper (Pyromaniac)                                            Robby Anderson-WR

I’m on the record as being a big Robby Anderson fan, but his offseason conduct could plummet his potential…or it could skyrocket his value

  1. The Checkdown (Rick Rosen)                                   Eric Ebron – TE
  2. Anthony Zaragoza (Redraft Football Factory)    Philip Rivers – QB
  3. Dave H (Dynasty Dorks)                                             O.J. Howard – TE
  4. The Commish (fntsyfbconnect)                               Austin Sefarian-Jenkins – TE
  5. Derek Brown (Fantasy Football 24/7)                     Dede Westbrook-WR

I find it very appropriate that Westbrook and Cole go back to back here, as we’re still unsure which of these two receivers will emerge as a bigger impact player in Jacksonville.

  1. Josh Padgett (DynastyDorks/Top2Sports):             Keelan Cole-WR
  2. Matt Hicks (Top2Sports):                                            Ty Montgomery-RB
  3. Marc Szymanski (Fantasy Football Addicts):        Donte Moncrief-WR
