Week 3 Start ‘Em/Sit ‘Em: QB/WR

We’re on to Week 3! Before we get into this week’s edition of start/sit, let’s review how last week went. DAMN YOU ALEX SMITH! The Washington signal caller was not good enough to warrant a start and he has been damned to my list of exiled QBs. You didn’t need to hear it from me, but if you have Pat Mahomes then you are starting him from here on out. My call to sit Ryan Fitzpatrick did not go well (thanks for handing me another L Philly you bastards). However, my call to sit Dak was a win outside of one 64-yard TD. We’ll call my QB portion of the article a tie. I told you to start Nelson Agholor and Quincy Enunwa and if you did, you’re welcome. I told you to sit Chris Hogan and Tyler Lockett and if you did, I’m sorry! With all of that said, let’s get on with Week 3.

Disclaimer: You will never find names like Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Antonio Brown and Odell Beckham Jr. in this article. If you drafted them then you don’t need to think twice about starting them. The purpose of this article is to uncover weekly gems and strong plays.

Start ‘Em QB

SF QB Jimmy Garropolo @ KC

This is a risky call simply because of how loud it can get at Arrowhead stadium plus Jimmy G’s weapons are subpar at best. He may get a boost with Marquise Goodwin returning but this will be Mahomes’ first home start in his career so that stadium will be rocking. I’m making this call simply because I think Jimmy G can exploit a bad KC defense. He’s been sacked A LOT in his first two weeks so the O-Line will need to keep him clean and if they do, I think he’ll have a good day. I have him as a top 10 play this week.

HOU QB Deshaun Watson VS NYG

Watson has struggled a bit in his return from an ACL injury last season. Nothing a matchup against a bad Giants defense can’t fix. The Giants have 1 lonely sack. The Texans’ offensive line is really bad but the Giants pass rush is nothing special so that should be nullified. This is the Texans’ home opener and their offense will be mostly at full strength. I think Watson can exploit this Giants secondary with his arms and maybe even make some things happen on the ground. Start Watson with confidence this week.

Sit ‘Em QB

LAC QB Philip Rivers @ LAR

Have you watched the Rams the first two weeks? Sit Rivers, I don’t need to explain myself.

IND QB Andrew Luck @ PHI

I have Luck on multiple fantasy teams and I am worried about him this week. The Philly pass rush is fierce and they’re playing at home. Jack Doyle might miss the game with a hip injury and will not be 100 percent. That’s one less target in an Indy offense that is already bereft of weapons. On top of all of that, Carson Wentz will be making his return in front of a home crowd. That place is going to be LOUD. Stay away from Luck this week.

Start ‘Em WR

DET WR Golden Tate VS NE

New England tends to struggle with players like Tate. He catches the ball in space and can make guys miss. I know Golladay has been the hot receiver in Detroit, but if Gilmore follows him around then I expect Stafford to look for Tate. Should be a good game for the shifty slot man in Detroit.

DEN WR Emmanuel Sanders @ BAL

I know there will be some hesitation with the Broncos going into Baltimore where it is always a challenge against a good Baltimore defense, but this defense got torched last week. Tavon Young in particular has been getting targeted in the slot. I expect Denver to target Young and Sanders should be the beneficiary of that matchup. Not to mention Sanders has easily been Keenum’s favorite target as well as the best receiver in Denver this season.

Sit ‘Em WR

TEN WR Corey Davis @ JAX

Let me get this straight, Davis and the Titans will be playing in Jacksonville against the Jags defense WITHOUT Mariota possibly? Blaine Gabbert will be starting for the Titans in that event, yes? Yikes, I’m not touching Davis this week.

NE WR Josh Gordon @ DET

Don’t jump the gun just yet. Gordon may be active and may even see the field in Detroit but outside of maybe 10 plays, I don’t expect him to have a big impact just yet. He likely won’t be ready for even a quarter of a full workload and New England will likely try to run the ball A LOT in this game. Give Gordon at least one more week before contemplating a start.
